INSTRUCTIONS FOR PERSONS WEARING AN ARTIFICIAL EYE.INSTRUCTIONS FOR PERSONS WEARING AN ARTIFICIAL EYE. To Take the Eye Out.- The lower eyelid must be drawn downward with the middle finger of the left hand, and then with the right hand the end of a small bodkin must be put beneath the lower edge of the artificial eye, which must be raised gently forward over the lower eyelid, when it will readily drop out. At this time care must be taken that the eye does not fall on the ground or other hard place, as it is very brittle and may be easily broken by a fall. To Put the Eye In. - Place the left hand flat upon the forehead with the fingers downward, and with the two middle fingers raise the upper eyelid toward the eyebrow ; then with the right hand push the upper edge of the artificial eye beneath the upper eyelid, which may now be allowed to drop upon the eye. The eye must then be supported with the middle fingers of the left hand, while the lower eyelid is raised over the lower edge with the right hand. The eye should be carefully washed every night upon removal, and may be allowed to lie during the night in water containing a little baking soda ; in this way the mucus and secretions which have adhered to the eye will be loosened, and may be readily detached in the morning.
